(February 12, 2006) — SPENCERPORT — Alex Marianetti is just learning how to be Section V wrestling champion, but the title fits him.

Pittsford Sutherland senior Kyle Borshoff, on the other hand, has had the role down cold for some time.

The same goes for Spencerport, which won the Class AA team championship Saturday inside its gymnasium. It is the 16th time in the last 17 years the Rangers have won a sectional team title, including the last six.

Borshoff claimed his fourth sectional class championship, this time at 130 pounds. A two-time top-five finisher at states, Borshoff made fast work of Spencerport sophomore Chris Collura in their final with a pin in 35 seconds.

"I got him out of position," Borshoff said. "I caught him with one arm under and one over (Collura's shoulder region) and pushed him a little bit.

"I was happy I pinned him."

Borshoff (38-0) will be downright excited if he can win three matches in a row next week at the SuperSectionals to earn a return trip to states.

With 214 varsity wins, plus fifth and third-place finishes at states on Borshoff's resume, he knows how to wrestle in that pressured atmosphere.

Marianetti, a sophomore at Greece Athena, advanced to the 96-pound semifinals during the 2005 SuperSectionals and finished with a 23-5 record.

"If I keep training the way I have, I think I'm going to states," Marianetti said after his 2-0 overtime victory over Spencerport's Matt Piedimonte in the 103 final. "I hope to have a good tournament."

Marianetti was surprised that he was warned for stalling during his match against Piedimonte, but kept composed as the match reached overtime with no score.

A powerlifter, Marianetti used a scooping motion to finally get Piedimonte to the mat. Marianetti then hustled into position to get awarded the points and end this rematch of the Monroe County Tournament final.

Hilton 125-pound junior Mark Ranzenbach told himself after losing in the Monroe County Tournament final that he could beat Penfield senior C.J. Fogle.

Ranzenbach made good on his word with a 5-3 victory over Fogle at Spencerport.

"I've been working for it in practice for two weeks," Ranzenbach said. "I don't tie-up with him, just circle and low singles (leg takedowns).

"I've never done it (wrestle the same opponent three times in a season). I'm sure I'll see him next week."

Brockport 215-pound senior Alex Nwaehujer (31-1) and Borshoff were named the most outstanding wrestlers.

Penfield's Ryan Nicoletta (36-9) edged Pittsford's Corey Borshoff 3-2 for his first sectional crown.

"It's crazy," the senior said after his win over Kyle Borshoff's younger brother. "Both the No. 1 (Greece Olympia's Josh Veltre) and No. 2 (Spencerport's Nick Terenzi) seeds lost in the semifinals.

"Corey and I already wrestled each other before today. It was a rematch, and I came out on top again. It's really a great feeling."

The top-four finishers in each weight class at all of the sectional tournaments advance to the SuperSectionals, Friday and Saturday at Caledonia-Mumford and Fairport.
